About me F.A.Q.

Hi everyone!

Now you are about to read a story about how I got started and turned out to be a person you see now.   I was born in Talsi, where I also got my first music education by graduating Talsi’s School of music, the class of trombone. On the whole I was kind of a hardworking kid – studied in the school of music, danced in a folk dance ensemble, even tried myself in shooting and spent a lot of time drawing caricatures. Could be said I was a talented child who had a possibility to choose his way in life.

That is what this story is gonna be about – about a choice, luck, muse, inspiration and self made happiness.     A true story is not good enough if it doesn’t have a good beginning – let’s consider my best beginning was a debut with my sister while performing the song „Moustached flower” about a cat who was planted in the flowerbed.  Yes, you got it right – in the flowerbed. I think this song even had its video on the TV. But, to be honest, my first official debut was a performance with the vocal ensemble „Talsu Sprīdīši” while studying in the Talsi School of Music.

After graduating I packed up and moved to Ventspils to continue my studies in Music College and play trombone in „Ventspils bigband”, conducted by Ziedonis Zaikovskis. Hard to say for sure what pursued me to move forward – could be the strong winds coming from the sea or just the desire for new impressions, but soon I decided to try myself as a singer. And it didn’t take long to come true. Quite soon I was already playing in a band called „Caffe”, together with Raimonds Tigulis. A project that started as a joke with my own fate turned out to a serious event in my career as a singer. Meanwhile I continued playing trombone in the Orchestra of the National Armed Forces and in the „Wet point”, a jazz band, together with Vilnis Kundrāts. In 2005 I took part in  E.Y.J.O.(European Youth Jazz Orchestra) – a project directed by a Danish musician Erik Mosuholm.

I have to admit that my creative life might remind the famous table game „Cirks”, where you throw your lucky dice and then look where the life is gonna take you. And it really has taken me to different places. I have participated in jazz festivals in Lithuania (Kaunas Jazz), Estonia (Nomme Jazz, Jazz Kaar), France (MIDEM), Finland (Pori Jazz) Canada (Otawa Jazz) and, of course, Latvia (Sony Jazz Stage),   I have taken part in several musicales - „Notre Dame de Paris” (2007), „Autoplantet”, directed by Latvian musicians Mārtiņš Freimanis and Kārlis Anitens (2005), „Mass” (a musical created by Leonard Bernstain) (2007), and performed in the projects directed by a producer company „Virus Art” Cabaret („Cabaret” (2004), „Kino Cabaret” (2005), „Cabaret Allez” (2006), „Cabaret plin, plin ...” (2007)) and „Viva la bomba” together with such musicians as Aija Vītoliņa, Laimis Rācenājs, Uldis Marhilēvičs etc. I am grateful to life for the possibility to play with such great names in Latvian music as Kārlis Lācis and Sweetwaterz, Maestro Raimonds Pauls, Māris Briežkalns and his quintet, Gunārs Rozenbergs and Mirage Jazz Ochestra, Deniss Paškēvičs and Riga Groove Electro, Liepājas Symphonic Orchestra, Melo M, Sofija Rubina etc.

I often get asked about the competition feelings. Yes, I admit, I like taking part in different contests. I consider that to be a great experience and a possibility to meet new people, get new impressions. It doesn’t matter if I don’t agree with those people or we think different, the point is – it’s great to see how different we all can be while doing the same thing. I have participated in such contests as Eurovision performing together with the band Sweetwaterz in 2006, New Wave (Grand prix (2005)), Sony Jazz Stage (Grand prix (2004)) and International Contest in Parnu  (Grand prix (2004)).

There’re always a lot of choices.  While looking at his own aim, one always wants to reach it by taking few big steps and then experience all the good feelings of winning and public admiring. But if only we take a deeper look a long serpentine takes its way to the aim we have chosen. It’s like a labyrinth. We can choose how to cover it. One can spend all his life only thinking about his aim and not seeing all the other things the life gives to us. But there’s also another way. A possibility to experience the miracle of life and live through each moment and be grateful for all the people and situations we meet on our way.   My aim will stay my secret, but my ways is open for each of you – taste it, evaluate it or learn from it – it’s your choice, so make it.
